In 2017 researchers in China reported that they had succeeded in producing 37 genetically modified pig embryos (7 of which survived) that were free of endogenous retroviruses, as a step toward developing the ability to safely produce human organs in pigs for transplant. With the advent of CRISPR and similar gene technologies scientists are able to transform exisiting species and potentially create unique life forms. With that in mind I created a series of wall pieces that function as unnameable organic entities with genetic code stretch across their surfaces like skins. They hang like trophies on a wall, branded and commodified.
