My objective as an artist is to create a visual language about transformation, one that speaks to the viewer directly through the strength and presence of its primal, iconic form. I work with a fundamentally abstract language that explores the line between nature and culture, and is deeply informed by biology, natural history and evolutionary theory. My current drawings and sculpture wed biomorphic and architectural or mechanical structures within a single form, creating objects that strike a chord of familiarity within the viewer and have a convincing physical presence while remaining unnamable. I seek to capture something of the spirit and persistence of organisms; their ability to withstand the challenges of their environment; the shear energy of their growth.
