During 2021 I revisited many of the sculptural ideas I explored in the "Toolkit Series" as well as "37 Pigs", forms whose bilateral symmetry and organic qualities echo the underlying principals that govern the development of complex biological structures. But unlike my earlier works, in these pieces I explored a more traditional ceramic surface treatment, working with oxides, mason stains and underglazes to more directly address the inherent qualities of clay. Some of the pieces have been stained, sprayed, scrubbed, sanded and fired multiple times. For others I have opted for a simple process of applying and removing underglaze to reveal the inherent texture of the clay and gesture of the creative process.
